(IULM & Mediaset Group, Italy)
This two-year Master Course in journalism is organized by campus multimedia in Formazione, a consortium between Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione (IULM) and the Mediaset Group. During these two years, students have the possibility of integrating classroom learning with some experience in the field of journalism. On the KTC University campus, students work on multimedia journalism, while in the Mediaset newsroom, they are part of the real editorial staff involved in a complete digital television production line.
In the first year, students attend, among others, the Editing, Reporting and News Writing course. But they also study other subjects such as history of journalism, law of journalism and ethics in journalism as well as visual communication, publishing law and infographics. In the second year, students participate in two internships at a real media world outlet (newspaper, radio, TV broadcast stations and so on), each lasting two months, in order to provide an appropriate educational/work experience. By the end of this two-year Master Course, journalism students will have integrated classroom learning with real-world experience in journalism, and they will have achieved the skills required to understand the needs of today’s marketplace.
This directs the focus to the journalism practice and gives the students the possibility of immediately experiencing how to create news events and broadcast them via different media such as newspaper, radio, television and Internet. The core of this “good practice”, in fact, is to find an agreement between professional work and an academic training environment in the journalistic field. The practice combines media industry expertise and academic accomplishment in the classroom, enabling the Master of Journalism to be on the cutting edge in training the students and providing constantly updated know-how for discovering, reporting and writing stories.
